Our care of the children should be governed not by the desire to 'make them learn things' but by the endeavor always to keep burning within them the light which is called intelligence.
Introductory Visit Please feel free schedule an introductory visit to the school. This will give the parent(s) an opportunity to observe the program in progress and talk with the Assistant Director about the Montessori program.
Applications If you would like your child to be considered for admissions, completed applications should be received by the school no later than January 15th. BMFS reserves the right to consider a late application on a case-by-case basis to meet the enrollment needs of the school.
Child Visit Upon receipt of a completed application, the child will be invited to visit the school. These visits are scheduled for the end of January and typically last one half hour for the toddler and preschool ages, or a full morning for the kindergarten and elementary ages. The child visit allows Classroom Teachers an opportunity to observe the child in the program setting. If appropriate, the Head of School will schedule a parent interview to follow the child’s visit.
Admissions Decisions Decisions regarding admissions will be made no later than March 15th. Each applicant will be notified of the admission decision in writing. A child may be accepted into the program, not accepted into the program, or offered a place on a wait list. If a child is accepted into the program, a non-refundable tuition deposit ($300) will be required by April 1st to secure a spot in the class.
Tuition Agreements Children accepted into the program who have paid a tuition deposit to secure a spot in the class must also return a signed tuition contract by April 15th.

Brixham Montessori Friends School began as a preschool in Portsmouth, NH in 1997. Within three short years, the preschool outgrew its space and relocated to York, ME where the school increased the number of students, added an elementary program and established itself as a highly reputable Montessori school serving Seacoast Maine and New Hampshire.
Teachers at BMFS are exceptional. Highly qualified and experienced, head teachers hold a minimum of a Masters degree and a Maine state teaching certificate or certificate from the an accredited Montessori teacher education program. Professional support, low staff turn-over, and encouragement from a dedicated school community help to make BMFS a wonderful place to learn and teach.
Parents at BMFS play a critical role in the governance of the school. Parents are elected to sit on the school’s Board of Directors and many of the Board’s task forces, such as public relations, building and grounds, fundraising, and education oversight are made up of parent volunteers. Parents understand their significant contribution to the well-being of school through volunteering their time, effort, expertise, and financial resources.
