Part-Time Aftercare Teacher

Brixham Montessori Friends School (BMFS) is seeking a part-time Aftercare Teacher to join our early childhood program beginning in September 2025. Located in York, Maine, BMFS is an accredited Montessori school serving children ages 18 months to 10 years. Our mission is to honor each child’s individuality, creativity, and intellectual potential through an enriched Montessori educational experience.

Position Summary

This part-time role supports our youngest students during lunch, rest, and outdoor learning times. The Aftercare Teacher helps create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that supports children's independence, joy in learning, and social-emotional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with children’s lunch, rest time, and transitions

  • Plan and supervise outdoor play and learning activities

  • Care for and maintain the outdoor learning environment

  • Support children’s social-emotional growth using Montessori-aligned practices

  • Attend staff meetings and participate in special school events

  • Engage positively with students, families, and the broader school community

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher (preferred)

  • Background in early childhood education, family studies, nature education, or a related field

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Interest in or willingness to be trained in:

    • Montessori philosophy and pedagogy

    • Positive Discipline

    • Maine Early Learning and Development Standards (MELDS)

  • Must meet all Maine Child Care Licensing requirements, including:

    • First Aid/CPR certification

    • Mandated Reporter training

    • Health and Safety training

  • A collaborative spirit, a kind and gentle heart, and a good sense of humor

Compensation and Benefits

  • $20–$22 per hour | ~25 hours per week (September–June)

  • Additional substitute teaching hours may be available

  • 3% retirement match

  • $100/month health care stipend

  • $250/year professional development stipend

  • Paid personal/sick days (based on percentage of time)

  • Paid licensing and training fees

  • Summer camp hours may be available in July and August
