Primary Program (3-6 years):

The Primary Program at Brixham serves children ages 3 to 6 years and represents the heart of Montessori education- a rich, three-year learning cycle that supports rapid intellectual, social, and emotional growth.

Our Primary classrooms offer the full scope of traditional Montessori curriculum, including:

  • Practical Life

  • Language

  • Sensorial

  • Mathematics

  • Cultural Studies

These core areas are further enriched with explorations in nature and science, Spanish language, world cultures and geography, as well as studio art and music- providing children with a broad, integrated educational experience.

Learning takes place in a multi-age classroom, where children grow at their own pace and learn from one another. Older children model skills and leadership; younger children observe, practice, and aspire. This structure fosters confidence, empathy, responsibility, and a strong sense of community.

With a school-wide emphasis on peace, kindness, and empathy, children absorb the importance of caring for their classroom, their school, and the wider world.

Why the Full Three-Year Cycle (Including Kindergarten) Matters

Completing the full Primary cycle- including the kindergarten year- allows children to fully integrate skills, deepen concentration, and step confidently into leadership roles. By the third year, children often demonstrate:

  • Strong academic readiness

  • Independence and self-motivation

  • Leadership and responsibility

  • Confidence as learners and community members

The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six.

Being part of the Brixham Montessori Friends School family has been a pleasure for our entire family. We have watched our daughter thrive creatively, and she is continually challenged with new learning opportunities. The teachers form a special connection and bond with their students. They inspire and encourage a love of learning in our children. The 3-6/ED experience has proven to be the best decision for our daughter.
